It is said that William (Patten) Patton arrived in America on the ship
The Davy sometime in the late 1600?s. We don?t know when or where he
was born, he died about July, 1715. He had bought land in Somerset
County Maryland. It appears that he was a farmer and was growing
tobacco. His will was recorded in the Maryland Calendar of Wills
Volume 4 page 77, the following is a transcription of the will.

William was probably born in the 1660s, in either Scotland or Ireland,
and came to Maryland ca. 1705. He first appears in the written
records when Peter CAMPBELL, planter of Somerset County wrote his will
on 10 Feb 1708/9. CAMPBELL named his wife Jennet executrix and his
brother-in-law William PATTIN overseer of the estate, which included a
plantation named "Ripley." William (or his son Wm) was named
administrator for William CURTIS in 1714.
